Q: What Did The Leftist Tweet To The Other Leftist? A: Probably Something Mean
I love the energy of memes like these, but often, when I really drill into them, the delivery is just a little too transgressive for me. Sure, a good number of normies haven’t spent enough time on “serious social media” to experience their ah-ha moment and conclude that the system needs immediate, drastic change, but let’s be real: Most actually have by now. In fact, growing numbers of American citizens even support socialism. They’re just waiting for the “Rebel Alliance” to stop fighting over pedantic nonsense, get its act solidly together and choose a few people to lead the hilariously overdue “glorious worker rebellion,” which is literally the only way to get us all out of this mess.
I mean by now, by my wild-guess-but-probably-deadly-accurate estimation, 99 percent of daily social media users — and yes, that includes your grandmother on Facebook — have accidentally seen graphic video evidence of the IDF’s (meaning America’s) heinous war crimes in Gaza over the past two years, and they‘re also well aware that a comfortable-enough middle class existence has become unaffordable to the majority of American citizens, so they’re already sold on tossing the American nepo-capitalist system right in the trash. They know they’re living in a dystopian horror movie and would be down to fix it; they’ve simply become reluctant to support the progressive left’s Obscure But Promising Political Figure Of The Week because eventually, once that person becomes a household name, they‘ll wind up getting destroyed when a bunch of grumpy ideological Karens (the first wave of whom are always actually either Operation Mockingbird-inspired trolls sent by people like the Mercers or Third Way trolls directed by powerful centrist monsters like the Clintons, followed immediately by internet-famous pundits attacking them relentlessly in order to fill space on their streaming platforms) flip out over one relatively minor thing or another. Apparently, no one who discusses politics on the internet understands that politics requires a lot of mature discussion and debate, which can’t be expedited by meming someone — much less entire voting bloc s— into oblivion.
I mean, a little positive enthusiasm might be worth trying someday, you know?
Yelling at Joe and Flo Cheeseburger at the top of your lungs for not knowing everything you know about political/economic/philosophical stuff only makes all the normies go back to watching Hulett Brothers videos and chasing their pets around the house.
Why can’t people just be patient and nice and strive to educate others rather than alienating them? Isn’t everyone sick of it yet? It’s so friggin old.

My second book, My Year In The Online Left, is out. Meantime, if you want to be fully, genuinely informed about the political troll/bot invasion of Election 2016, 2020, and Elections-Yet-To-Come, buy my previous book. There’s the tiniest bit of technical stuff in those books, but you’ll get it, I promise. My Twitter is @esaeger, my Mastodon is @esaeger@universeodon.com (I’m spending a lot more time there now), my BlueSky is @esaeger.bsky.social (ditto) and my cursed Facebook is eric.saeger.9 (I do visit it daily).
