Lindy and Jlo: Normalizing Violence Toward Women

By now you’ve probably seen a few YouTubes, TikToks or Facebook Reels from the internet-celebrity prank couple, “Lindy and Jlo,” aka “Happy Family,” the ones where she (Lindy) walks into a room and sets off a sensor-trap where she (it’s usually her, not him) gets nailed in the head by a balloon half-filled with milky white goop, and then he (Jlo) cracks up laughing and fires off a hand-held confetti shooter. It’s all over Facebook, and when I first started taking that place seriously as a platform to get all those nice smart people to buy my books, I thought that shit was hilarious, like I went on a total ADD bender and watched every single one of those videos.

Like I said, usually it’s Lindy who gets pranked, but she does nail Jlo pretty good now and then. It never balances out, but to his credit, when Jlo does get covered in that white crap he laughs super-hard about it. They’re like Punch and Judy but with milk-filled balloons or whatever that crap is.

Anyway, yes, there’s a point to all this. Lately I’ve noticed more and more Facebook Reels are featuring people (mostly women) getting pranked pretty hard, sometimes kinda borderline-violently (I’m sure TikTok has a lot of them too, but I have to stay away from TikTok comedy or I’d lose entire days there). Some of them are wicked funny to me, especially when it’s some guy on the receiving end of a Jackass-style prank from his buddy, but a lot of those videos are just made by really unfunny, talentless morons trying to ape Lindy and Jlo. Tldr, there seems to be a trend in the air that’s normalizing violence (however “good-natured”) toward women, which I’d say is juuust a little dangerous now that the country’s going the way of Gilead, with MAGA’s Deep State about to take full control, you know?

Some people are overdoing it, is what I mean, and it’s a little disturbing. I mean, when a harmless prank is funny, it’s funny, but more and more of those Reels just really aren’t funny at all. Like, leave the comedy to the professionals, that’d be great. It’s kind of awkward to watch some idiot bro nail his unsuspecting wife in the face with a pie when she just got home from a long sucky day getting yelled at by some asshole boss and she’s obviously like, “Um, where did that come from?” This isn’t to say women can’t be funny, not at all, but can we be real here with this boys humiliating the girls stuff?

You know, while I’m here, and I’ve talked about this elsewhere, it’s pretty amazing that women haven’t been organizing around common cause to smash this hopeless, horrible system, or at least make things better for themselves. You do know that Gloria Steinem was a CIA operative, right? These days, like many of our labor leaders, most of the major feminist leaders seem to be big into the Democrats for no good reason (it’s money of course), which sure is stinky, isnt it? Why didn’t the Democrats codify Roe when they had years of supermajority power to do it and instead kept making the excuse that their majority wasn’t super enough? You want to see the House pass a bill with a super-thin, one-vote majority, wait til Trump and his cannibal ghouls want to annex Yemen or ban condoms or whatever. Someone at least look up the word “solidarity,” could you please?

Okay, thanks for coming to my Harvard University commencement address, now please go buy my latest book on Amazon for all your loved ones, because it’s gift-giving season baby!

My second book, My Year In The Online Left, came out on June 10. Meantime, if you want to be fully, genuinely informed about the political troll/bot invasion of Election 2016, 2020, and Elections-Yet-To-Come, buy my previous book. There’s the tiniest bit of technical stuff in there, but you’ll get it, I promise. My Twitter is @esaeger, my Mastodon is @esaeger@universeodon.com (I’m spending a lot more time there now), my BlueSky is @esaeger.bsky.social (ditto) and my cursed Facebook is eric.saeger.9 (I do visit it daily).
